They shared a common passion for animals and Ursula often dreamed of providing neglected, once-abused animals a safe haven.

While originally from New York, Chris surprisingly started off with a career in human healthcare, eventually landing in Florida working as a real estate broker. When he met Randy, everything changed…for the better, that is! Their relationship sparked a new passion to live each day with purpose. After they got married, their desire to provide a better world for farm animals was greatly amplified. Together, Chris and Randy followed through on Ursula’s dream and established the Little Bear Sanctuary in 2017. Now, 160+ rescued farm animals call Little Bear Sanctuary home, and – thanks to Christopher’s compassion and dedication – each animal has been given an opportunity to experience love and freedom.

Little Bear Sanctuary provides a permanent home for farm animals that have been abandoned or can no longer be cared for by the owner in order to allow them to live out the remainder of their lives in a cruelty free environment. Esther is some pig. At just 4 pounds, she was misrepresented as a “micro pig” and sold to Steve and Derek in the summer of 2012. Over the next two years Esther just kept growing and growing. In fact, her dads often “wondered” when she would stop! Well, just 2 years later Esther weighed in at 600 pounds and had fully earned her nickname: Esther the Wonder Pig. Even though she had totally outgrown their small suburban home, by then Derek and Steve loved her and she was family. Now an “almost” full-grown house pig, Esther took her dads, along with her dog, cat and bunny siblings on the adventure of a lifetime!

Happily Ever Esther Farm Sanctuary, located in Campbellville, Ontario, Canada, was founded in 2014. Since it began, Happily Ever Esther Farm Sanctuary has been dedicated to rescuing abused, neglected, and abandoned farmed animals. Their goal is to provide a safe, life-long home for all of our residents, and to educate the public about the true nature of farmed animals through tours, volunteer programs, and community outreach.

Special Guest: Steve Sietos

Growing up in Denver, Stavros always wanted a dog but never got one.

He made his way to New York City thanks to his younger brother and fell in love with the lifestyle of the city. Professionally, Stavros went towards a career in EMS and then as a firefighter. ( from 2005-2017)

Eventually, his lifelong wish of having a dog came true in expected fashion when a dog showed up at his fire station.

The dog, Wilma, was sick. Stavros decided to take charge and try to heal her on his own, even though he was told she wouldn’t survive. He became a herbalist, quit being a firefighter, and dedicated himself to learning about how different herbs could help Wilma and animals in general.

He figured it out, healed Wilma, and along the way he found that Wilma healed him in a similar way. She taught him how to love himself, how to love others, and live your life in the right mindset.

When Stavros would be depressed or dramatic or in a bad mood, Wilma would not engage with him until he was being more positive and in a good headspace. This helped Stavros realize how he was looking at what was happening to him and the world around him.

Throughout this process, his passion for educating himself on herbs and how we can heal our animals and ourselves took hold and has become Stavros’ passion and craft in life, another one of the gifts that Wilma has led him to discover and embed in his life. “She aligned me with my true path,” Stavros says. He now works with other people and their pets as well.

Steve started formal training in herbalism in 2010 at the Green Medicine with well known healer and herbalist Peeka Trenkle. He studied clinical herbalism Program at the Brooklyn Commons in 2012. And from 2013-2015 at the Arbor Vitae School of Traditional Herbalism professional herbalist program.

Because of the love for his beautiful canine companion Wilma, he became specialized in the herbal treatment and healing modalities of cancer in dogs.

Special Guest: Alex Leonard

“Humans and Elephants” is the debut film made by Alex Leonard, graduate alumni from a Masters in Environmental Sustainability at Western University in London, Canada.

The film has been 8 years or so in the making, following Alex’s journey as an elephant ambassador visiting numerous research facilities, sanctuaries, and national parks. The documentary follow’s Alex narrative as he discovers the significance and impact of both tourists and local people in their relationship to elephants.

From fundraising in highschool for a sanctuary to traveling at 18 years old visiting the Elephant Valley Project in Western Cambodia, Alex has had several experiences interacting with elephants. Over the years, Alex always kept a camera by his side, which has helped bring the film to life. Alex has fundraised for elephants in Montreal through art sales, presented about their wellbeing in Canada and the UK, conducted research in Sri Lanka, and now created a film about the topic to help educate others.

Elephant conservation has always been a film that Alex has been passionate about and he now hopes to continue his objective of sharing that love for these sentient beings with others.

Humans and Elephants is a compassionate and surprising story about the role that both elephants and humans have on each other in shared spaces over time.
